How do I go from dyed medium golden blonde to cool medium brown?
My natural colour is medium brown. I dyed it blonde, but I hated the brassiness, so I dyed a dark ash blonde over it. It's better, but still has a very gold tone to it.
Now I want to return to cool medium-dark brown, but I don't want the golden undertones shining through. I know it's probably impossible to avoid them completely, but how can I minimise them? Should I go straight for a medium-dark brown permanent dye? Or is there some product, or gold-stripping treatment I can use. (I already use John Frieda for Blondes purple shampoo, which does very little for my hair.)
Tone it first, and see what result you get. Toning will remove a lot of that brassiness you get with lightening hair.
DO NOT use a colour stripper. "Colour Strippers" are bleach and will only make your hair more brassy.
From toning, if you still don't like the results, I would go to a hair supplies store and ask for advice on which colours to use. I would use a medium ash brown if I were doing it myself, but personally, I would go to a salon and request that they foil your hair in hi-lights and lo-lights to achieve the colour you want. It will look a lot more natural and a lot less flat and blerrgghh if you get it done like that. 
But try the toner first! Even though you use the john frieda shampoo!
