What Makes Golden Retrievers So Popular
The initial first impression, when you see a Golden Retriever adult or puppy for that matter is attractiveness, highly affectionate and friendly as well as boisterous, especially when young. They are exceptionally loyal and are eager to please their owner, very playful and are quite obedient when trained properly.
This dog breed is extremely popular with young families, or singles, which has a lot to do with their loyalty and affectionate nature. While anyone wanting them as a pet, must also be prepared to commit to their needs, which includes adequate exercise, especially if you have a small yard, house or apartment. With the appropriate nourishment, care and regular exercise, they are more than likely to live a long and healthy life.
The Golden Retriever generally gives the appearance of confidence as you conspicuously see in their physical features. They have a strong athletic body and bold stance. It is apart of their personality and temperament for them to be affectionate and calm, their interaction with other people is evident. Also they tend to get along well with other dogs and household pets they come across. Their general features are the soft, feathery outer coat which can be straight or wavy. The undercoat is water resistant, although they do tend to shed their coat throughout the year and more so in the warmer months. Regular grooming will prevent excess shedding during summer as well as keep their coats free from tangles or becoming matted.
Due to their temperament, trainability and intellect Golden Retrievers have also been popular as working or service dogs, such as a Guide Dog for the visually impaired as well as search and rescue. They have also been great companions or visitors for the elderly in retirement homes.
They are sociable pets and very outgoing. Their passionate disposition makes them the ideal dog breed; they are quite patient and very gentle around young children. Which only highlights they are safe family pet to have. They can be highly excitable and do need to be supervised while in the presence of young children and babies as they can knock them over by accident.
The Golden Retriever is generally not aggressive, but it does pay to check out their background and proper breeding and upbringing as a puppy as they may've developed undesirable aggression. Generally they are known as a people's animal as they love to spend time around people instead of being left by themselves. Sometimes leaving for extended periods of time may also entice their aggression rather than being with a lot of people.
While they aren't highly regarded as much of a guard dog they do have a bellowing bark. They are always welcoming of new visitors and pleasing those around them.
