how can I make a tool, or stick to pick limes off my tree? Where Can I get an idea or picture of one?
Home depot sells an extendable stick that is used for changing lightbulbs in hard to reach cieling areas.It has a basket with rubber coated fingers and works quite well. I had to make someting longer for my avacado trees and here is how I did it for cheap.
Materials:
1 ten foot section 1 1/2 pvc tubing from plumbing section
thin rubber coated clothes line
string
duct tape
Directions:
cut two 22 foot sections of clothesline,bring the ends of each together leaving a loop on one side of each.
tie a weight onto the end of the string and drop it into the pvc pipe,tilt the pipe until it comes out the other side.
tie and tape the string to the clothesline ends opposite the two loops.
pull the clothes line back through the pipe using the string until only six inches of the two loops stick out the end.
Use duct tape to seperate and form the loops a couple inches apart to form the expandable and contractable band "pocket" that will grab the fruit.You can make this in no time.And you can make it as long as you like,mine is twenty feet,it bends a little towards the top,but it works.Those are the best avacados on the tree.
